The Story of Tasimba

With excitement and optimism, we enter another New Year and reflect with gratitude and humility on the story of Tasimba.

The story began in 2015 when longtime business partners Hugh Coppen and Heather Weaver set out to create a unique, extraordinary safari.

But the roots of Tasimba are to be found many years before, when Hugh was growing up in Zimbabwe, then called Rhodesia. His lifelong love for the country, its people and its prolific wildlife was deeply embedded in him during those childhood and formative years.

I always love going home; it’s where my roots are… It’s a good reminder of where I started and the journey that I still  have to go on to get to where I want to be.

– Millie Bright

Best of the Best

Over years of safaris, what had become very clear to Hugh, is that there is always, without fail, something new to learn from nature and the wilderness.

It was on a safari in Zimbabwe in the early 2000’s that the idea of sharing the transformative power of the wild with others sparked his dream.  Working together and tapping into the wisdom of several top safari experts, Hugh and Heather crafted Tasimba by studying and selecting the very best aspects of Africa’s top safaris.

Tasimba Co-Founders Hugh and Heather with Garth Thompson, Keystone Guest at Linkwasha Camp, Zimbabwe.  Garth is “widely regarded as the best African Guide” (Conde Nast).

Fundamentally, Tasimba is a deeper immersion into nature, the wilderness and local culture than is typical in other safaris. Our purpose is to take people who have innate curiosity and a hunger for learning out of their comfort zone and inspire them to open their minds and hearts to new ways of seeing the world – and their role in it.

In the past eight years, the dream has been transformed into a reality. Our passion for what we are doing and our relentless attention to detail combine to create an extraordinary safari experience.  Tasimba not only showcases Zimbabwe’s breathtaking landscapes, prolific wildlife, and local culture but also engraves an indelible impact on its guests.

Together We Are Strong

We called it Tasimba meaning ’Together we are strong’ in the Shona language of Zimbabwe. The name has powerful connotations because, in their extraordinary week together with us, Tasimba’s guests become deeply bonded by nature and by learning with, from and about each other.

Tasimba Is more than just a safari. It is a journey of self-discovery, connection and inspiration.

Through deeply immersive experiences, meaningful encounters with wildlife, and expert guidance from Africa’s best Pro Guides, Tasimba epitomizes authenticity and impact.

In every safari we see irrefutable evidence in our guests of the transformative power of Africa’s pristine wilderness. They are changed by their Tasimba experience, each in their own ways. They take with them something indelible that will forever be a part of their lives.

The Tasimba story is a work in progress, always growing, always adapting – just like the nature in which we immerse ourselves.

We invite you to share in this extraordinary adventure. Join a growing family of Tasimba Clan members who celebrate the wonder of Africa, the wisdom of nature, and the powerful bonding they feel in their unforgettable week in our wilderness.

The only way to escape the ordinary is to explore the extraordinary.”
