Private Wilderness: Why It Matters
Whenever we get the chance, we proudly talk about ‘the vast private wilderness’ that is home to our Tasimba safaris. People ask us “But why is a private wilderness so important?”
Simply put, it is the most unique part of a great African safari because vast private wildernesses are so rare!
Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit.”
Edward Abbey
There are many attributes that contribute to what makes some safaris stand out from the rest. Beautiful location. Superb accommodation. Prolific wildlife. Sumptuous food. Warm hospitality. Highly qualified guides. And more.
Indeed, those qualities can to be found on many safaris in many locations.
The Big Differentiator
But only a very few safaris are able to check all those boxes AND, in addition, have the one huge differentiator that truly separates them from all the others: their own vast, private wilderness.
Let’s be clear what we really mean when we say “vast, private wilderness”. “Vast“ meaning over 100,000 acres. “Private” meaning a defined area that is only accessible to the very few guests actually staying in the camp(s) in the area. “Wilderness” meaning a remote area unspoiled by evidence of human presence.
Tasimba’s Home
One such vast, private wilderness has been home to every Tasimba Safari since we first launched our unique experience. It is the pristine Wilderness concession in Hwange National Park.
There are many reasons why a vast, private wilderness makes such a difference – and it’s not just because it so exclusive:
Under a huge sky and distant horizons, this unspoiled space with nothing but animals in it makes you instantly aware of the profound privilege it is simply to be here – you realize that all the amazing things you will see here are like a private viewing for you.
As you watch animals in the wilderness going about their lives completely undisturbed, you feel a powerfully emotive reality that you are the visitor here: this ‘cathedral of the wild’ is their space, not ours; and you’re invited to witness them in their purest form.
The longer we spend in the serene, uncrowded wilderness, the more humbled we are by the powerful evidence that for untold millennia nature has always kept itself in balance without any human interference.
The absence of other vehicles jostling for position at every sighting means that you always have ‘front row viewing’. Here, there’s no rush or ‘queue to view’; you can linger as long as you wish, fully immersed in the wonder of the moment.
This is what makes our private wilderness so special—an unparalleled safari experience that’s both deeply immersive and at the same time feels uniquely yours.
Truly Unique
When we first created Tasimba, our criteria included all the attributes of the very best safaris. Then, to truly distinguish ourselves and craft an extraordinary adventure for our guests, we added important differentiators that would combine to make a truly unique safari experience.
Each of these are unique in their own right:
- An uninterrupted 7 day stay in camp instead of the usual hurried 3-day stays;
- Exclusive sole occupancy of camp instead of having other guests checking in and out;
- Daily indabas (informal meetings) to inspire deeply transformational conversations;
- A digital detox with no cell service or Wi-Fi allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring wonders of nature without any distractions;
- Africa’s most highly qualified wildlife guides, handpicked for Tasimba safaris;
- 24/7 in person hosting by two local experts, dedicated to curating and enhancing your entire safari experience with their intimate knowledge and warmth;
- Daily activities and surprises and our meticulous attention to detail;
- Every one of these unique Tasimba attributes is enriched and enhanced by the mere fact that we are present in a vast, private wilderness, elevating your bush adventure to the pinnacle of safari excellence.
The words of Tasimba guest Bill Dube say it so well:
Our Tasimba safari was not just a trip. It was a transformative journey that awakened our senses, nourished our souls, and deepened our connection both with nature and with our own purpose in life.”
